FAQs

What is the IEC program in Canada?

The IEC (International Experience Canada) program is a Canadian government initiative allowing international youth from participating countries to work and travel in Canada for up to two years (depending on your country).

There are several different experiences available, including working holiday, young professional and international co-op internships. Check out each program page to learn more!

Who is eligible for IEC Canada?

This depends on the IEC category you’re interested in and your nationality, as each participating country will have a different agreement with the Canadian government. For more information, see the individual requirements for each program:

How do I get an IEC visa for Canada?

To get an IEC visa for Canada, you will need to follow these steps:

  1. Check to see if you are eligible to apply for the IEC visa category.
  2. Create a profile on the IEC website portal and enter the visa pool.
  3. Wait for your invitation to apply (ITA).
  4. Apply for the IEC visa, including submitting all the required documents and fees.
  5. Provide biometrics, if required.
  6. Get approved! The Canadian government will send you a POE (Port of Entry) letter, which you will use to activate your visa upon arrival into Canada – remember, you have 12 months to enter Canada!
